What you have done looks great. I enjoy the drawings, and think they help illustrate the points.

RE attaching to the wall: You could use an inverter so it is entirely self-contained. The toaster will get quite heavy. From another perspective, it would be pretty funny if once it has toasted the pop-tart, it unplugs itself from the wall in running away. Or it tries to run away but is trapped because it is stuck to the outlet. This adds another dimension of behavior and characterization to the project.

The link you provided for the LCD screen stuff is not the right one. I think you should look into the LCD driving a little bit, can you find an example of someone using an arduino to control a dot-matrix or custom LCD? That would be a great help for you figuring out your own project.

We are going to do some workshopping of ideas in class on Tuesday, so maybe others will have good input for you.
