I&amp;#039;m an ICAM (visual) major because an art degree with an emphasis on programming is my idea of a good time.  I&amp;#039;m thinking of going into the video gaming industry to become an art director, but I could change my mind at any time. A camera I can actually dissect.  It ended up in a cooler overnight and takes ghostly pictures now - when it decides it wants to work, that is.&lt;br /&gt;

I didn&amp;#039;t like my other idea.  Mostly because I don&amp;#039;t want to have to locate a Bible.  So, something fun instead: Happy Plant.    When you shine a light on it, it jiggles.  I&amp;#039;m stealing the parts from a vibrating back massaging device, and trying to learn how to make a photoresistor work...&lt;br /&gt;

I decided it would be more dynamic if the plant began by shaking, and would only stop when the viewer shines a bright light upon it.  The project becomes reinterpreted from a &amp;quot;Happy Plant&amp;quot; that enjoys light, to a &amp;quot;Scaredy Plant&amp;quot; that is afraid of the dark.  I think this is thematically more complex and interesting as well.  I have always wondered how plants feel about the dark, since they need light to survive.  Are they afraid that the sun might not rise again?  With a vibrating motor and a photoresistor, I&amp;#039;ve given the plant the ability to express its fear by shaking in its... roots.  &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I think people will relate to their own fears of the dark with this project.  What would happen if the sun were blocked out by nuclear war?  What does it mean if the only emotion the plant can express is fear?  (By contrast, does it express relaxation?)  And aesthetically, what&amp;#039;s the significance of combining something organic with a battery powered mechanical device?&lt;br /&gt;

I want to create a sculpture of a woman with three potentiometers representing her main erogenous zones.  The goal would to get people to interact with her body in order to induce &amp;quot;orgasm&amp;quot;.  There would be some sort of display on my laptop screen which would give feedback.  I want to explore woman as analog and how men interact with female bodies digitally.  I would construct the sculpture out of clay, and maybe spray it silver.&lt;br /&gt;

I decided to do a wire sculpture instead, since it fit thematically with my piece better.  I focused less on orgasm and more on the &amp;quot;woman as analog&amp;quot; concept.  I have a few thoughts on how the male perspective interacts with female bodies, but I think the piece can have many meanings.  The screen displays a woman&amp;#039;s body, covered up by pixel-like squares.  There are intentional references to pixels to make the piece more about the digitalization of sex.&lt;br /&gt;

This presents an opportunity.  Conceivably, with the right hardware, you can interface with or control any electronic device.  Exploring your local environment (your neighborhood, walmart) make a list of electrical devices, and document the 5 most interesting in this regard--things you would like to control.  Avoid the dorm room problem--i.e. do not photograph things in your dorm room, apartment, at the price center, etc., unless you have good reason to do so.  Dorm room art looks like dorm rooms and thus enters the world severely handicapped.  Don&amp;#039;t do it!!!  Document means photograph, video, or draw.  Post images of these five things to the wiki page you made in part 1.  If you are feeling extra creative, briefly describe how you would use each item. &lt;br /&gt;

The final project is an open assignment similar to the midterm in that you need to identify and articulate an interest / something you want to make.  This time, however, you need to use the Arduino for the project and both the code and the hardware will be considered in your grade. I decided it would be more dynamic if the plant began by shaking, and would only stop when the viewer shines a bright light upon it.  The project becomes reinterpreted from a &amp;quot;Happy Plant&amp;quot; that enjoys light, to a &amp;quot;Scaredy Plant&amp;quot; that is afraid of the dark.  I think this is thematically more complex and interesting as well.  I have always wondered how plants feel about the dark, since they need light to survive.  Are they afraid that the sun might not rise again?  With a vibrating motor and a photoresistor, I&amp;#039;ve given the plant the ability to express its fear by shaking in its... roots.  &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I think people will relate to their own fears of the dark with this project.  What would happen if the sun were blocked out by nuclear war?  What does it mean if the only emotion the plant can express is fear?  (By contrast, does it express relaxation?)  And aesthetically, what&amp;#039;s the significance of combining something organic with a battery powered mechanical device?&lt;br /&gt;

I will use either a motion sensor or a microphone to detect when viewers are in front of my device.  This will either cause a mirror to light up or for the device to project an image (camera obscura style perhaps) of the viewer and it will be somehow altered.  I want to explore the way we have alternate personas and how complex they can become.  Can I make some viewers realize just how &amp;quot;two-faced&amp;quot; they can be?  What is it like to have multiple-personality disorder?&lt;br /&gt;

A camera I can actually dissect.  It ended up in a cooler overnight and takes ghostly pictures now - when it decides it wants to work, that is.&lt;br /&gt;

I didn&amp;#039;t like my other idea.  Mostly because I don&amp;#039;t want to have to locate a Bible.  So, something fun instead: Happy Plant.    When you shine a light on it, it jiggles.  I&amp;#039;m stealing the parts from a vibrating back massaging device, and trying to learn how to make a photoresistor work...&lt;br /&gt;

I decided it would be more dynamic if the plant began by shaking, and would only stop when the viewer shines a bright light upon it.  The project becomes reinterpreted from a &amp;quot;Happy Plant&amp;quot; that enjoys light, to a &amp;quot;Scaredy Plant&amp;quot; that is afraid of the dark.  I think this is thematically more complex and interesting as well.  I have always wondered how plants feel about the dark, since they need light to survive.  Are they afraid that the sun might not rise again?  With a vibrating motor and a photoresistor, I&amp;#039;ve given the plant the ability to express its fear by shaking in its... roots.  &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I think people will relate to their own fears of the dark with this project.  What would happen if the sun were blocked out by nuclear war?  What does it mean if the only emotion the plant can express is fear?  (By contrast, does it express relaxation?)  And aesthetically, what&amp;#039;s the significance of combining something organic with a battery powered mechanical device?&lt;br /&gt;

I left the church this summer and have discovered the joys of up-cycling Bibles for art projects.  (Unfortunately I&amp;#039;m all out... Anybody want to lend me one?  A nice big thick one, please.)  This project will feature two lights in a display board, and a switch underneath some sort of platform for a Bible to rest on.  As the user turns more and more pages of the holy book, the weight on the left side will increase and eventually depress the switch.  This will cause the first light (labeled &amp;quot;gay&amp;quot;) to turn off and the second light (labeled &amp;quot;straight&amp;quot;) to turn on.  Obviously, if someone reads enough of the Bible, they&amp;#039;ll quit sinning and learn not to be so gay.  &lt;br /&gt;

I&amp;#039;m thinking I&amp;#039;ll design the display board to look like one of those informational pamphlets modern churches seem to favor.  The platform might look like a mini altar.&lt;/div&gt;</summary>

** part 2 - Field Research.  If it plugs in, has buttons, has a switch, toasts bread, emits light, it probably runs on electricity.  We are surrounded by electronic devices.  This presents an opportunity.  Conceivably, with the right hardware, you can interface with or control any electronic device.  Exploring your local environment (your neighborhood, walmart) make a list of electrical devices, and document the 5 most interesting in this regard--things you would like to control.  Avoid the dorm room problem--i.e. do not photograph things in your dorm room, apartment, at the price center, etc., unless you have good reason to do so.  Dorm room art looks like dorm room&amp;#039;s and thus enters the world severely handicapped.  Don&amp;#039;t do it!!!  Document means photograph, video, or draw.  Post images of these five things to the wiki page you made in part 1.  If you are feeling extra creative, briefly describe how you would use each item. &lt;br /&gt;
