The laser pointer. The green clip goes to the "-" terminal (spring inside the barrel of the pointer) and the white one to "+" (which is the barrel itself). The button is taped down in the "on" position.

Pretend the phone is the camera. I had to use the camera to take a picture of the setup.

The breadboard. The laser pointer (green and white alligator clips) is powered by 3 volts' worth of button batteries. The relay is powered by another pack of batteries.

The relay runs in parallel with whatever else the shutter button activates inside the camera.
